Walker College Admission Requirements (with NCCC Equivalents)

Fall 2009 Onward

These requirements are effective for students entering Appalachian Fall 2009 onward (NC Community College equivalent courses are in parentheses). Business majors may take no more than five 3000/4000 level business courses prior to admission to the Walker College of Business. Students who are exempt from the General Educaiton Program at Appalachian, because of transferring in under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement from a NC Community College, must still meet all major requirements even if they are also a part of the General Education Program. 

Admission requirements are as follows:

  • Earn credit for at least 60 semester hours
  • Earn a minimim cumulative GPA of 2.5 based on at least 12 semester hours at Appalachian that are graded A-F
  • Remove all grades of “I” (incomplete) from his/her academic record. Students with outstanding grades of “I” will not be admitted to the College of Business
  • Earn credit for:
  1. English 1000 with a minimum grade of “C” (ENG 111)
  2. English 2001 with a minimum grade of "C" (students who transfer from a North Carolina Community Cocllege under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement - GEP Met or CCC Core will be on the Appalachian transcript - will meet this requirement if transferring in credit for ENG 112, 113, or 114 from a NCCC with a minimum grade of C)
  3. Math 1030 or MAT 1110 (MAT 263 with lab or MAT 271)
  • Earn credit for following College of Business core courses with an overall GPA of at least 2.0:
  1. ACC 2100 (ACC 120)
  2. ACC 2110 (ACC 121)
  3. ECO 2030 (ECO 251)
  4. ECO 2040 (ECO 252)
  5. ECO 2100* or STT 2810 (BUS 228 or MAT 151 or MAT 155)
  6. LAW 2150 (BUS 115)
  • Pass a College of Business Basic Computer Skills Test or earn credit for CIS 2025 (CIS 110)

* with prereq: MAT 1020 or MAT 1030
